Mocha Torte Dessert

Delicious and so lovely to look at! A great change for that 40th birthday!
  1. 1 chocolate cake mix
Mocha Cream Filling
  1. 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips 125 mL
  2. 2 tbsp hot water 25 mL
  3. 3 tbsp instant coffee powder 25 mL
  4. 1/4 cup granulated sugar 50 mL
  5. 1 1/4 cups whipping cream 300 mL
  1. Prepare cake according to package instructions. Bake in two 8-inch (20 cm) round cake pans that have been greased and lined with circles of waxed paper. Bake and cool, then turn out on wire racks. With a knife, split each layer into two.
  1. Combine chocolate chips, water, coffee powder and sugar in small, heavy saucepan. Heat, stirring until smooth, and cool. Whip cream until it starts to thicken; add chocolate mixture and whip until stiff. Spread between layers and on top of torte. Chill at least one hour. Decorate with shaved chocolate.
  2. Serves 10 to 12.
